If you have had the pleasure of visiting
Italy, but never been further south than Naples, let us introduce
you to a well kept secret, the place the Italians go to holiday!
The Puglia region is totally unspoilt with some
of the cleanest, award winning beaches in Europe. Farming is the
major industry with acres of fruit and olive trees creating wonderful
scenery to be enjoyed for it’s natural beauty and along with
the fresh fish caught locally, the fresh vegetables and locally
produced wine, provide for some culinary delights.
During the summer months (June to August) the whole
area is packed with holiday makers from the north of Italy, during
the rest of the year the area is a quiet rural community to be enjoyed
for its natural beauty and easy pace of life.
Travelling to the Puglia region of Italy from the
U.K. used to involve flights to Naples or Rome, then another south.
Now, fortunately the low cost airlines fly direct from the U.K.
to southern Italy. Ryanair fly from Stansted Airport to Brindisi
& Bari Airports and British Airways fly from Gatwick into Bari.
Flying time is about two and a half hours and the prices are wonderfully
inexpensive.
A visit to Puglia is an adventure for the independent
travellers; the whole region is laced with historic sites and places
of interest to visit. If you prefer a relaxing time on the beach
you can choose a different beach every day to enjoy some of the
cleanest, pollution-free seawaters in Europe.
The sea will also provide you with wonderful fresh
fish meals, caught on the day by the local fishermen and prepared
at fabulous local restaurants, or you may prefer to take up a rod
and catch your own from the shore, either way you will also have
the choice of accompanying your meal with a glass or two of the
regions delicious and inexpensive wines.
Puglia is a total experience, it will make you relax
and enjoy the simple pleasures in life.
